Consultations for Therapists
As a therapist, you carry a lot for your clients. And, grief has always been an intrinsic part of therapy and our work with clients. But in recent years, since climate change disasters have increased, new wars have emerged, and especially, since the ravages of the pandemic, universal grief has exploded. And then there's the personal grief that ensues when your clients grapple with the death of an important person in their lives. This grief exists in a realm of its own. The result of all this? The sky-rocketing and urgent need for you to become a grief-savvy clinician.
Here's how I can help. I'm fluent in the language of grief. As a grief specialist since 2006, I've worked with individuals grieving the loss of a spouse, child, pregnancy, parent, sibling, family relative, best friend, and other significant people in their lives. I've worked with individuals whose losses have been traumatic and those whose losses were expected. I've worked with clients experiencing acute grief and those struggling with complicated, prolonged, and complex grief. It takes special skill and expertise to know how to work with a client at this most vulnerable time in their life, when they are overwhelmed and unmoored by the enormity and intensity of their grief. I have these skills and expertise and I can help you to develop them too.
I'd be happy to help you clarify how to work most effectively and compassionately with your grieving clients as you immerse in this challenging, deep, and soulful work. How do I do this? In my practice I use an array of tools and approaches including grief psycho-education, EMDR, Flash EMDR, IADC, creative arts therapies, somatic therapy, IFS/parts work, spiritual direction, coaching, and concrete practical life skill building. I can help you to use the tools and approaches that best suit you, your needs, and the needs of your clients. Through our consultations, you will feel equipped and empowered to help your clients process and integrate their losses and re-build a life of meaning and purpose.
I'll also help you understand how to work most effectively and compassionately with yourself. Therapists are people too, with their own losses and griefs. It's inevitable that you may get triggered by your clients' losses, and at times feel lost, helpless, and even exhausted during sessions. I can help you identify those unconscious issues that may be activating you and preventing you from doing your best work, and co-creating with you a plan of action to address them.
